More about Peyote 20 seeds
With Peyote seeds, cactus enthusiasts get the opportunity to experience the complete life cycle of Lophophora williamsii in their own grow room or garden. Instead of buying an already established plant, you start with a tiny seed and gradually watch the famous blue-green cactus take shape over the years. Peyote seeds are sold under our in-house brand Open Up, and each pack contains 20 Peyote cacti seeds in airtight packaging. These Peyote cactus seeds are intended for botanical cultivation and collecting, not for consumption.
Peyote is known for growing much more slowly than other mescaline cacti such as San Pedro or Peruvian Torch, and growing a mature Peyote cactus from seed can take many years. That makes raising it from seed a project for patient growers, but also one of the most interesting ways to get to know this extraordinary species. If you’re looking to buy a larger cactus instead of peyote plant seeds, you can find Peyote alongside many other psychoactive plants in the Sirius Mescaline Cacti collection!
What are Lophophora williamsii seeds?
Peyote, scientifically known as Lophophora williamsii, is a small, rounded cactus native to parts of Mexico and the southern United States. Mature specimens typically remain close to the ground, with broad ribs, a woolly centre, and a spineless appearance.
The mature cactus naturally contains mescaline, a psychedelic phenethylamine that has played an important role in the ceremonial traditions of several Indigenous peoples. The Lophophora williamsii seeds themselves, however, are simply seeds and have no psychoactive effect. How to germinate Peyote Seeds
Wondering how to germinate Peyote seeds? We at Sirius tell you how it's done: Start with a small flowerpot or cultivation container with drainage holes. Fill it with suitable sowing soil to around one centimetre below the rim and gently level the surface.
Moisten the substrate from below by placing the container in a tray of water until the surface becomes damp. Spread the seeds across the surface rather than burying them deeply, and lightly mist them so they make good contact with the soil.
Next, cover the container with transparent film or a suitable lid. This creates the warm and humid environment young Peyote seedlings prefer during germination. Place it somewhere warm and bright, but avoid intense direct sunlight: a covered container can heat up remarkably quickly.
A temperature around 25°C and high humidity of approximately 80–90% provide favourable conditions. Germination can vary between individual seeds and growing environments, so patience is important and no germination percentage can be guaranteed.
From germination to young Peyote seedlings
Once most seedlings have appeared, start introducing fresh air gradually. You can make a few small holes in the covering or briefly remove the lid each day.
After approximately three months, gradually increase ventilation so the young plants adapt to a less humid environment. Do this slowly: seedlings still need moisture and should not suddenly be allowed to dry out completely.
Around six months after germination, successfully developing seedlings may be slightly more than half a centimetre across and can gradually be moved toward a substrate suitable for Peyote. Individual development can vary considerably.
Young plants are particularly sensitive to excessive water and intense sunlight. Check out our blog about 6 beginner mistakes when taking care of the mescaline cactus Peyote before your seedlings become established plants!
Why grow Peyote from seeds?
Starting with peyote cactus seeds requires more patience than buying a rooted plant, but that is also what makes the process special! You can observe subtle differences between seedlings and watch the characteristic form of Lophophora williamsii slowly emerge within the comfort of your home.
Growing from seed also supports the idea of cultivated rather than wild-collected Peyote. Wild populations develop extremely slowly and face pressure from habitat loss and unsustainable harvesting. Read our blog about Sustainable harvesting of Peyotes to learn why responsible sourcing is extremely important.
Are Peyote cactus seeds legal?
A frequent question is: are peyote cactus seeds legal? There is no single answer that applies everywhere. Legislation concerning Peyote, mescaline-containing plants, their seeds, and cultivation differs between countries and may even distinguish between possessing seeds, growing a cactus, and preparing a plant for consumption. Always check your local regulations before ordering, cultivating, processing, or using this product. Sirius does not promote drug use and aims to provide customers with information that helps them make safe and informed decisions.
