Copelandia grow kits
The Sirius Copelandia grow kits give you a step up from the usual Psilocybe cubensis kit, with four distinctive cultivation lineages: Hawaii, Blue Spring Red Spore, Man in Black and Weza. All four went through an extensive selection programme with our specialist breeder and cultivator in the Netherlands while keeping their own character. These mushrooms are known for their high potency, so the kits are intended for experienced growers and highly experienced psychonauts. Find the full collection at Sirius Smartshop and learn more about the four Copelandia growkits below.

What are Copelandia grow kits?
If you are into mushroom cultivation, you have probably come across the name Copelandia. Panaeolus cyanescens, often called pan cyans, is the currently accepted scientific name for the species formerly known as Copelandia cyanescens. If you have been searching for a Panaeolus cyanescens growkit, you are in the right place.
In nature, Panaeolus cyanescens is a mushroom found across warm regions of the world. Its fruiting bodies are often relatively slender and pale, and damaged tissue can develop blue staining. This bluing is associated with the oxidation of psilocin-derived compounds. Like other psilocybin-containing mushrooms, Panaeolus cyanescens produces psilocybin and psilocin, with concentrations varying between specimens and harvests. These Copelandia grow kits also differ from the standard Magic Mushroom Growkits you may already know. Each comes with a colonized substrate tray, separate casing soil and a grow bag.
Four lineages, one Dutch selection story
The history of these four lineages predates Sirius, and parts of their original provenance cannot be independently verified. An important new chapter began when the original spore prints reached our specialist breeder and cultivator in the Netherlands. The cultures were established, selected and developed across successive generations, with hundreds of pan cyans grow kits involved and attention paid to vigorous growth, fruiting performance and distinctive morphology. Each of the four Copelandia grow kits displays unique characteristics.
Copelandia Hawaiian grow kit, aka The Powerhouse
The Copelandia Hawaiian grow kit stands out for its vigorous growth that was observed in our breeder's cultivation experience. Hawaii has produced impressive fruiting bodies and strong, dense clusters, which is where The Powerhouse nickname comes from. "Hawaii" is the lineage designation that arrived with the original spore print, but there is no proof that these spores have a wild Hawaiian origin.
Copelandia Blue Spring Red Spore grow kit, aka The Colorful One
Do you want to grow a visually unique mushroom? The Copelandia Blue Spring Red Spore grow kit, or BSRS, earned the name The Colorful One after our breeder observed reddish/orange fruiting bodies and spores, plus blue areas in the mycelium. Among the Copelandia/Panaeolus cultures our breeder has personally worked with, BSRS has also produced the highest number of flushes!
Copelandia Man in Black grow kit, aka The White Mystery
The name sounds scary and dark, but the Copelandia Man in Black grow kit goes in the opposite direction. In our breeder's experience, MIB has produced exceptionally white fruiting bodies with a slender shape and very dense clusters. The origin of the Man in Black name is unknown, making The White Mystery a pretty fitting nickname!
Copelandia Weza grow kit, aka The Heavyweight
The Copelandia Weza grow kit is the sturdy one. Our breeder has observed the thickest stems and flattest caps in Weza among the Copelandia/Panaeolus cultures they have personally worked with, giving it its Heavyweight character. The original print arrived with the designation "Weza, South Africa", but that received provenance is not a verified wild collection record.
Growing Panaeolus cyanescens with the Copelandia grow kits
If you already have experience with mushroom kits, that will help, but growing Panaeolus cyanescens is not quite the same as working with a standard Psilocybe cubensis kit. Copelandia grow kits come with a separate casing layer and follow their own care routine. You will need a clean fine-mist spray bottle and clean tap water at room temperature.
- Unpack the kit. Take out the grow bag, the tray containing the substrate, and the separate container of casing soil.
- Add the casing layer. Spread the casing soil carefully and evenly over the substrate. Keep it light and loose rather than pressing it down.
- Create a humid environment. Put the tray inside the grow bag and spray 20-30 times with a fine mist. Let the moisture settle mainly on the inside walls of the bag and lightly on the casing surface. Avoid repeatedly spraying the same spot!
- Close the grow bag. Fold the top over and secure it with a clip, while leaving some air inside.
- Keep the right conditions. The recommended Panaeolus cyanescens growing conditions are between 22 and 26°C with normal daylight but no direct sunlight.
- Air and mist every day. Open the bag 1-2 times daily for a few seconds and gently press the sides to exchange the air. Afterwards, spray 1-2 times with a fine mist. A little condensation on the bag is enough; do not soak the substrate.
- Watch for pins. The first small pins may appear after around 5-11 days. Once they appear, stop spraying, but continue airing the bag 1-2 times a day.
- Harvest at the right moment. Pick the mushrooms once the caps open and before large amounts of spores are released. Harvest all mushrooms, including the smaller ones, by gently bending them sideways close to the base.
- Prepare for another flush. After harvesting, spray approximately 20 times inside the bag, close it again, and return to the daily care routine. One tray can produce up to four or five flushes, although this is not guaranteed.
If you are comparing the Panaeolus cyanescens growing conditions with other kits, read our FAQ on growing magic mushrooms and the Mushroom Grow Kit Manual for general background knowledge. For these kits, the specific Copelandia instructions above always come first.
How strong are Panaeolus cyanescens mushrooms?
Published analyses have found high concentrations of psychoactive tryptamines in Panaeolus cyanescens, but natural variation means no fixed potency can be promised for every mushroom or flush. In other words, Panaeolus cyanescens has earned a reputation as an exceptionally potent psychedelic mushroom, although its strength can vary considerably.
Psilocybin and psilocin are the main compounds behind the psychedelic effects. If you want to know more about these substances, read our guide to psilocybin and psilocin. Before using any harvest, also check our guides on Learning How to Dose and Preparing How to Trip.
These Copelandia grow kits are intended only for highly experienced psychonauts who understand the importance of set, setting, individual sensitivity, and the intensity of psychedelic experiences.

So, which one appeals to you most? Choose Hawaii for its vigorous growth and dense clusters, BSRS for its unusual colors and impressive number of flushes observed by our breeder, MIB for its pale, slender appearance, or Weza for its sturdy Heavyweight build. All four Copelandia grow kits share the same Dutch selection story, but they were kept distinct rather than pushed toward one identical result.
