More about Copelandia Hawaiian grow kit
Sirius presents the Copelandia mushroom grow kits, a collection of four cultivation lineages developed through an extensive selection programme in the Netherlands. Despite the Hawaiian name, a wild Hawaiian origin cannot be independently confirmed. The Hawaii lineage was selected and developed through our Dutch selection programme. Coming from the Copelandia cyanescens lineage, sometimes called in the literature as the Panaeolus cyanescens lineage, these rare and select genetics will amaze everyone from the moment they grow to the impressive effects they elicit.
Inside this Copelandia Hawaiian grow kit, you will find:
- 1 substrate tray containing the growing medium.
- 1 container of casing soil to spread loosely over the substrate before cultivation.
- 1 plastic grow bag used to maintain the humid environment needed during fruiting.
That separate casing layer means this Copelandia grow kit does not work the same way as our Psilocybe cubensis grow kits.
How to use your Copelandia Hawaiian grow kit
While previous experience with Mushroom Grow Kits may be helpful, the Copelandia Hawaiian grow kit has its own specific cultivation protocol and should be grown according to the instructions below. To get started, you will need a clean fine-mist spray bottle and clean tap water at room temperature; then follow the steps below:
- Unpack the kit: Inside the Copelandia grow kit, you will find a grow bag, a tray containing the substrate, and a separate container with casing soil.
- Add the casing soil: Spread the casing soil carefully and evenly over the substrate. Do not press it down; the casing layer should stay light and loose.
- Get the right humidity: Place the tray inside the grow bag and spray 20 to 30 times with a fine mist. Moisture should settle on the inside walls of the bag and lightly on the soil surface. Avoid repeatedly spraying the same spot.
- Close the bag: Fold the top of the grow bag to close it, secure it with a clip, and make sure some air remains inside.
- Keep the right conditions: Keep the kit between 22 and 26°C and provide normal daylight while avoiding direct sunlight.
- Air and mist daily: Open the bag 1 or 2 times a day for a few seconds and gently press the sides to exchange the air. Afterwards, spray 1 or 2 times with a fine mist inside the bag. Slight condensation means the humidity is sufficient. Do not overwater.
- Wait for the first pins: These may appear after approximately 5 to 11 days. As soon as pins (tiny dots of developing fruiting bodies) appear, stop spraying but continue airing the bag 1 or 2 times every day.
- Harvest at the right moment: Harvest once the caps open and before large amounts of spores are released. Remove all mushrooms, large and small, by gently bending them sideways close to the base.
- Start the next flush: After harvesting, spray around 20 times inside the bag, close it again, and repeat the same daily routine. One tray can produce up to 4–5 flushes.

Story of the Hawaii lineage
The original spore print entered the collection of our specialist breeder and cultivator in the Netherlands in 2023 with the name “Hawaii” already written on it. According to the information received with the print, it had been brought from New Zealand, but no original collector, wild collection site, collection date, or field record accompanied it. A Hawaiian wild origin cannot be independently confirmed.
That distinction is important when discussing Hawaiian Copelandia, Copelandia cyanescens Hawaiian, and Panaeolus cyanescens Hawaiian: “Hawaii” is the lineage designation received with the spore print, not proof of its original geographical provenance.
Copelandia cyanescens or Panaeolus cyanescens?
Panaeolus cyanescens is the accepted modern scientific name, while Copelandia cyanescens is a synonym that stuck around in mushroom cultivation circles. Therefore, a Copelandia or Panaeolus cyanescens grow kit can be used to describe the same species.
Panaeolus cyanescens is a psilocybin-producing mushroom. Its psychedelic effects are primarily mediated by naturally occurring psilocybin and psilocin, but concentrations can vary considerably between specimens and harvests. If you want to dig further into what those two compounds actually do, read our blog: What Are the Psychedelic Substances Psilocybin and Psilocin?
Our special Dutch selection of Copelandia cyanescens grow kits
After germinating the spore print, the breeder established the culture and worked with it through successive generations. The Hawaii lineage then became part of a larger selection programme involving hundreds of grow kits across the four Copelandia lines.
Among the four lines, the breeder observed particularly vigorous growth, strong and large fruiting bodies, and dense mushroom clusters in the Hawaii lineage. These characteristics are observations from the breeder’s cultivation experience and do not guarantee that every Copelandia Hawaiian grow kit will develop identically.
Hawaii vs Blue Spring Red Spore, Man in Black and Weza
The four Copelandia lineages were all part of the same Dutch selection programme, but the purpose was never to make them four copies of the same mushroom. Each line was selected and developed to preserve its own distinctive observed characteristics. In our Magic Mushroom Grow Kits sections you can find:
- Copelandia Hawaiian grow kit, aka The Powerhouse. In the breeder’s cultivation experience, Hawaii showed particular vigour, impressive fruiting bodies, and strong, dense cluster formation.
- Copelandia Blue Spring Red Spore grow kit (BSRS), aka The Colorful One. The breeder has observed reddish/orange spores and fruiting bodies in BSRS, as well as blue areas that can develop in the mycelium. Among the Copelandia/Panaeolus cultures they have personally worked with, BSRS has produced the highest number of flushes in their experience.
- Copelandia Man in Black grow kit (MIB), aka The White Mystery. Despite the dark name, the breeder describes this line as having exceptionally white fruiting bodies, a slender morphology, and a tendency to form very dense clusters.
- Copelandia Weza grow kit, aka The Heavyweight. In the breeder’s experience, Weza has produced the thickest stems and flattest caps among the Copelandia/Panaeolus cultures they have personally worked with.
Four histories. Four expressions. One Dutch selection programme
Copelandia potency warning
Do not underestimate the potency of Copelandia mushrooms. They are exceptionally potent, and the Copelandia Hawaiian grow kit is intended only for highly experienced psychonauts. Analyses of P. cyanescens have found very high concentrations of psychedelic alkaloids, but variability is too high for us to guarantee a fixed number for every Hawaiian mushroom or every harvest.
For that reason, these quantities must never be treated as guarantees of safety. For a first experience with Copelandias, even for a highly experienced psychonaut, 0.5 g dried / 5 g fresh is the conservative upper guideline. For people with substantial experience specifically with Copelandias, 1 g dried / 10 g fresh remains the conservative upper guideline. Individual sensitivity, mushroom harvest, set, setting, and other factors can all change the experience. Use a high-quality digital scale to make sure you are ingesting the desired amount.
