More about Copelandia Weza grow kit
Sirius presents The Copelandias, a collection of four distinctive cultivation lineages that were part of an extensive selection programme in the Netherlands. The Weza spore print entered our breeder’s collection in 2024 with “Weza, South Africa” written on it. However, no original collector, exact collection site, collection date, photographs, or field notes accompanied the print. The culture is maintained under the identification Panaeolus cyanescens.
Inside this Copelandia Weza grow kit, you will find:
- 1 substrate tray containing the growing medium.
- 1 container of casing soil to spread loosely over the substrate.
- 1 plastic grow bag used to maintain the humid environment needed during fruiting.
The separate casing layer means this Copelandia grow kit follows a different cultivation protocol from our Psilocybe cubensis magic mushroom grow kits.
How to use your Copelandia Weza grow kit
Experience with other mushroom grow kits can help, but the Copelandia Weza grow kit has its own specific protocol. You will need a clean fine-mist spray bottle and clean tap water at room temperature. Always follow the Copelandia-specific instructions supplied with the kit.
- Unpack the kit: Take out the grow bag, substrate tray, and separate container of casing soil.
- Add the casing soil: Spread the casing soil carefully and evenly over the substrate. Keep the layer light and loose rather than pressing it down.
- Set the humidity: Place the tray inside the grow bag and spray 20 to 30 fine mists inside the bag so moisture settles on the inner walls and lightly on the surface. Avoid repeatedly spraying the same spot.
- Close the bag: Fold the top of the grow bag to close it, secure it with a clip, and make sure some air remains inside.
- Choose the right conditions: Keep the kit between 22 and 26°C in normal daylight while avoiding direct sunlight.
- Maintain the kit daily: Open the bag 1 to 2 times a day for a few seconds and gently press the sides to exchange the air. Then spray 1 to 2 times with a fine mist inside the bag. Slight condensation means the humidity is sufficient. Do not overwater.
- Watch for the first pins: These may appear after approximately 5 to 11 days. As soon as pins appear, stop spraying but continue airing the bag 1 to 2 times every day.
- Harvest at the right stage: Harvest once the caps open and before large amounts of spores are released. Remove all mushrooms, large and small, by gently bending them sideways close to the base.
- Prepare for another flush: After harvesting, spray approximately 20 times inside the bag, close it again, and resume the daily care routine. One tray can produce up to 4–5 flushes, although this is not guaranteed.

Story of the Weza lineage
In 2024, the original print entered the collection of our specialist breeder and cultivator in the Netherlands with the provenance designation “Weza, South Africa.” No original collector, exact collection site, collection date, photographs, or field notes accompanied the print. The South African association is therefore part of the received provenance, but a wild South African origin cannot be independently confirmed. Once the spores arrived in the hands of our breeder, they were germinated, a culture was established, and Weza underwent the wider Dutch selection programme due to its unique characteristics!
Copelandia cyanescens or Panaeolus cyanescens?
Panaeolus cyanescens is the current scientific name, while Copelandia cyanescens is treated as a synonym and remains common terminology in mushroom cultivation. For this cultivation lineage, descriptive search terms such as Panaeolus cyanescens Weza, Weza Panaeolus cyanescens, Panaeolus Weza, Copelandia cyanescens Weza, and Pan Cyan Weza may also be used.
Panaeolus cyanescens is known to produce high quantities of psilocybin and psilocin. Those compounds are responsible for the psychedelic effects associated with Magic Mushrooms, but their concentrations can vary substantially between specimens and harvests. If you want to dig into the chemistry rather than just the names, read our blog What Are the Psychedelic Substances Psilocybin and Psilocin?
Our special Dutch selection of Weza Copelandia
After the original spores were germinated by our Dutch breeder, Weza became part of a larger selection programme covering all four Copelandia lines. Hundreds of grow kits were involved across successive generations, with strong and distinctive expressions selected while keeping the character of each lineage intact.
For Weza, the breeder consistently noticed the presence of a feature that makes this line easy to recognize: mushrooms had a particularly robust build. Among the Copelandia/Panaeolus cultures they have personally worked with, Weza has produced the thickest stems and flattest caps. That is the basis for its nickname, The Heavyweight!
Although this is what our breeder observed, we cannot guarantee that every Copelandia Weza grow kit will look identical. Mushrooms are living organisms, and normal biological variation is expected.
Weza vs Hawaii, Blue Spring Red Spore and Man in Black
All four Copelandia lines went through the same broad Dutch selection programme, and the unique characteristics of different spores were kept for diversity. In our Magic Mushroom Grow Kits section, you can find:
- Copelandia Weza grow kit, aka The Heavyweight. In our breeder’s cultivation experience, Weza has produced the thickest stems and flattest caps among the Copelandia/Panaeolus cultures they have personally worked with.
- Copelandia Hawaiian grow kit, aka The Powerhouse. In the breeder’s cultivation experience, Hawaii showed vigorous growth, impressive fruiting bodies, and strong, dense cluster formation.
- Copelandia Blue Spring Red Spore grow kit, aka The Colourful One. The breeder has observed reddish/orange spores and fruiting bodies and blue areas that can develop in the mycelium. Among the Copelandia/Panaeolus cultures they have personally worked with, BSRS has produced the highest number of flushes.
- Copelandia Man in Black grow kit, aka The White Mystery. The breeder describes MIB as having exceptionally white fruiting bodies, a slender morphology, and a tendency to form very dense clusters.
Copelandia potency warning
Do not underestimate Copelandia mushrooms. They are among the most potent psychedelic mushrooms, and the Copelandia Weza grow kit is intended only for highly experienced psychonauts. Analyses of Panaeolus cyanescens have found high concentrations of psilocybin and psilocin in some specimens, but concentrations can vary considerably between mushrooms and collections.
These quantities must never be treated as guarantees of safety. For a first experience with Copelandias, even for a highly experienced psychonaut, 0.5 g dried / 5 g fresh is the conservative upper guideline. For people with substantial experience specifically with Copelandias, 1 g dried / 10 g fresh remains the conservative upper guideline. Individual sensitivity, differences between harvests, set, setting, and other factors can all affect the experience. Use a precise digital scale to make sure you are taking the amount you intend to.
