More about Copelandia Blue Spring Red Spore grow kit
Sirius presents the new Copelandia mushroom grow kits, a collection of four distinctive cultivation lineages that underwent extensive selection in the Netherlands. The original spore print entered the breeder’s collection in 2024 with the name “Blue Spring Red Spore / BSRS” already written on it. The original meaning and history of “Blue Spring” are unknown, and the lineage’s complete historical provenance cannot be independently documented. The lineage is maintained under the identification Panaeolus cyanescens, while Blue Spring Red Spore / BSRS is the lineage designation received with the original print. Inside this BSRS grow kit, you will find:
- 1 substrate tray with the growing medium inside.
- 1 container of casing soil to spread loosely over the substrate.
- 1 plastic grow bag used to maintain humidity during fruiting.
The separate casing layer means this Copelandia grow kit uses a different cultivation protocol from our Psilocybe cubensis Magic Mushroom Grow Kits.
How to use your Copelandia Blue Spring Red Spore grow kit
Experience with Mushroom Grow Kits can help, but the Copelandia Blue Spring Red Spore grow kit has its own protocol. You will need a clean fine-mist spray bottle and clean tap water at room temperature:
- Unpack the kit: Take out the grow bag, substrate tray, and casing soil.
- Add the casing soil: Spread it evenly over the substrate without pressing it down.
- Set the humidity: Put the tray inside the bag and spray 20 to 30 times with a fine mist inside the bag, allowing moisture to settle on the inner walls and lightly on the surface. Do not repeatedly spray the same spot on the substrate.
- Close the bag: Fold the top, close it using a clip, and make sure you leave some air inside.
- Choose the right conditions: Keep the kit between 22 and 26°C in normal daylight, away from direct sunlight.
- Air and mist daily: Open the bag 1 to 2 times a day for a few seconds and gently press the sides to exchange the air. Then spray 1 to 2 times with a fine mist inside the bag. Slight condensation means the humidity is sufficient. Do not overwater.
- Wait for the first pins: They may appear after 5 to 11 days. Once they do, stop spraying but keep airing 1 to 2 times daily.
- Harvest: Harvest all mushrooms, large and small, once the caps open and before large amounts of spores are released. Gently bend them sideways close to the base until they come loose.
- Start the next flush: After harvesting, spray approximately 20 times with a fine mist inside the bag, close it again, and resume the daily care routine. One tray can produce up to 4–5 flushes, although this is not guaranteed.

Story of the Blue Spring Red Spore lineage
In 2024, the spore print entered the collection of our specialist breeder and cultivator in the Netherlands with the name “Blue Spring Red Spore / BSRS” already attached. The original meaning and history of the name “Blue Spring” are unknown. After germination and culture establishment, BSRS entered the wider Dutch selection programme described below, where strong and distinctive expressions were selected through successive generations.
Copelandia cyanescens or Panaeolus cyanescens?
Panaeolus cyanescens is the current scientific name, while Copelandia cyanescens is a synonym that remains common in mushroom cultivation. For this cultivation lineage, descriptive terms such as Panaeolus cyanescens Blue Spring Red Spore, Panaeolus cyanescens BSRS, Blue Spring Red Spore Panaeolus, and BSRS Copelandia may also be used. Panaeolus cyanescens contains the psychoactive compounds psilocybin and psilocin, which contribute to its psychedelic effects. To learn more about these compounds, read our blog What Are the Psychedelic Substances Psilocybin and Psilocin?
Our special Dutch selection of Copelandia BSRS
BSRS became part of the wider four-line Dutch selection programme, which involved hundreds of grow kits. Across successive generations, strong and distinctive expressions were selected while preserving what made each lineage unique.
For Blue Spring Red Spore, the breeder has observed reddish/orange spores and fruiting bodies, as well as blue areas that can develop in the mycelium. Among the Copelandia/Panaeolus cultures the breeder has personally worked with, BSRS has produced the highest number of flushes in their experience.
These observations do not guarantee identical results from every Copelandia Blue Spring Red Spore grow kit, and normal biological variation is expected.
Blue Spring Red Spore vs Hawaii, Man in Black and Weza
The four Copelandia lineages were all part of the same Dutch selection programme, but the purpose was never to make them copies of each other. In our Magic Mushroom Grow Kits section, you can find:
- Blue Spring Red Spore (BSRS), aka The Colorful One. In the breeder’s cultivation experience, BSRS has shown reddish/orange spores and fruiting bodies, blue areas that can develop in the mycelium, and exceptional repeated fruiting.
- Copelandia Hawaiian grow kit, aka The Powerhouse. In the breeder’s cultivation experience, Hawaii showed vigorous growth, impressive fruiting bodies, and strong, dense cluster formation.
- Copelandia Man in Black grow kit (MIB), aka The White Mystery. The breeder describes MIB as having exceptionally white fruiting bodies, a slender morphology, and a tendency to form very dense clusters.
- Copelandia Weza grow kit, aka The Heavyweight. In the breeder’s cultivation experience, Weza has produced the thickest stems and flattest caps among the Copelandia/Panaeolus cultures they have personally worked with.
Four histories. Four expressions. One Dutch selection programme!
Copelandia potency warning
Do not underestimate Copelandia mushrooms: they are exceptionally potent, and the Copelandia Blue Spring Red Spore grow kit is intended only for highly experienced psychonauts. Analyses of P. cyanescens have found high concentrations of psilocybin and psilocin in some specimens, but concentrations can vary considerably between mushrooms and collections.
These quantities must never be treated as guarantees of safety. For a first experience with Copelandias, even for a highly experienced psychonaut, 0.5 g dried / 5 g fresh is the conservative upper guideline. For people with substantial experience specifically with Copelandias, 1 g dried / 10 g fresh remains the conservative upper guideline. Factors such as individual sensitivity, differences between harvests, set, and setting can all affect the experience. Use a good digital scale to make sure you are taking the amount you intend to.
