If you haven’t heard of OG Kush, you must have probably been hiding under a rock for some time. OG Kush is possibly one of the most famous strains in the market! A Legend, with capital L, OG Kush is the epitome of Californian cannabis. First hitting the scene in LA around mid 90’s, OG Kush soon became the high standard for the strains coming out of the Golden State.
Probably having its origins in a cross between Chemdawg and Hindu Kush, OG Kush is the perfect blend of sativa and indica effects. From the Chemdawg, a straight-to-the-brain sativa kick. From Hindu Kush, the most bodily and potent indica knock. Nominated one of the “25 Greatest Strains of All Time” by High Times, OG Kush has been tested as having a whooping THC concentration of 24% in the 2013 Denver Cannabis Cup.
OG Kush is short and bushy, with strong and dense branches. Although it has smaller buds, they are very dense, making the plant still a good producer. They have a bright lime green colour and the leaves around them take a more yellowish tone. Some purple hues may appear here and there in some phenotypes if placed in a cold environment. Complementing these astonishing colours, vibrant orange pistils pop up here and there throughout the flowers.
During the vegetative stage, the plant has a tendency to stretch. It is only during the flowering period that it seems to start filling itself. Supercropping during growth may help keeping its height in check and increase the final yield. The flowering period of the OG Kush is anything between 8 and 9 weeks and, on average, the plant will yield between 400 and 500g/m². The aroma that the plant gives off is very intense so growers should make sure to have some good carbon air filters at hand.
Well suited for ScrOG and super cropping, it performs well both indoors and outdoors. Indoors, it is recommended to adjust the microclimate to something that emulates the warmer regions of the world, from where the plant comes from. Outdoors, growers should plan to harvest around October. Those in warmer regions, as usual, will profit a bit more from the plant than those in northern and colder parts of the world.
OG Kush is one of complex flavours and aromas. Attention grabbing, OG Kush has in its smell an orchestra of earthy, piney tones, well mixed with more spicy and citrus notes, all accompanied by a diesel body. The smoke of this strain can be a bit harsh and cough-inducing, so those sensitive to smoke should be careful. After inhaling, however, the user will soon be consumed by the amazing taste of this plant.
Quick to act, soon after the first hits, you will probably already start to feel the intense body high effects of the plant, mixed with the bright and colourful euphoria. Perfect blend of the two worlds, OG Kush is a strain that will please both sativa and indica lovers. And it had good medicinal properties too. For the ones who enjoy some strong medicine, OG Kush is a very good pain reliever and appetite enhancer. It may also help with stress and anxiety, although it may induce paranoia in those that are slightly more sensitive to its effects.
