More about Premium Decorated Kuripe
This Premium Decorated Kuripe is handmade in Amsterdam by an independent craftswoman and combines the lightweight, practical feel of natural bamboo with traditionally inspired decoration. The naturally hollow structure of bamboo also makes it particularly suitable for crafting a kuripe, providing an open channel for smooth airflow and the administration of rapé. The designs on this Premium Kuripe applicator are created with burn marks directly in the bamboo, allowing it to keep its natural finish without the addition of artificial paints or coloring. Choose from four different options to find your favorite Premium Decorated Kuripe:
- El Condor: inspired by the condor, a bird with deep cultural and spiritual importance in Andean traditions.
- El Jaguar: in several Amazonian traditions, the jaguar has strong links with shamanism, power, and transformation.
- La Puma: inspired by the puma, a powerful wild cat associated with strength and agility.
- El Serpiente: inspired by the serpent, with the anaconda being important in Huni Kuin traditions, associated with transformation and visionary knowledge.

What is a kuripe?
A kuripe is a small V-shaped applicator pipe used for the self-administration of rapé. Its hollow construction connects the mouth and nostril, allowing one person to blow the powdered preparation into their own nose without the help of another person. Unlike a tepi (like the Handmade Bamboo Tepi in our Smartshop), which is designed for two-person administration, a kuripe is more compact and personal.
What is a kuripe used for?
A kuripe, such as this Premium Decorated Kuripe, is specifically designed for the administration of rapé. Rapé, also known as hapé, is a finely powdered ceremonial snuff traditionally used by a number of Indigenous peoples of the Amazon. Many traditional rapé preparations contain strong tobacco such as Nicotiana rustica, often combined with plant ashes and other botanical ingredients. Depending on the community and tradition, rapé may be used in ceremonial or spiritual settings connected with practices such as intention, reflection, prayer, or other forms of ritual preparation.

How to use and maintain your Premium Decorated Kuripe applicator
A kuripe is designed for individual use, so no second person is needed to administer the rapé. Before using your Premium Decorated kuripe applicator, take a moment to become familiar with its shape and identify the mouth and nostril ends. To use it, follow these steps:
- Add the rapé to the opening at the longer end of the kuripe, which will be positioned at the nostril.
- Take a moment to prepare, which may include setting an intention as part of your personal practice.
- Position the longer end at the entrance of your nostril and find a comfortable angle.
- Place the shorter end at your lips, keeping the kuripe securely positioned.
- Administer the rapé with one steady, controlled breath through the mouth end.
- Give yourself a moment. Remain still, breathe through your mouth, and wait a few minutes before removing the residue or blowing your nose.
- Clean the handmade premium kuripe after use. Remove loose powder with a small brush or clean cloth. If water is needed, use it sparingly and allow the bamboo to dry completely before storing the kuripe in a dry place.
If you would like to repeat the rapé administration in the other nostril, reload the kuripe with rapé and repeat the process on the other side. In some traditional practices, using rapé on both sides is associated with spiritual balance. Would you like to read more about other fascinating Amazonian traditions? Disclaimer: Use rapé with appropriate caution. Many rapé preparations contain nicotine from tobacco, which can increase heart rate and blood pressure and is addictive. Composition varies considerably between rapé products, and tobacco-containing preparations may also contain other harmful tobacco constituents. Avoid combining it with other substances and consult a medical professional before use, especially if you have health conditions or take medication.
