My cup of coffee (or tea) with CBD

Posted: 10-03-2020 | Written by: Elena Sirius

Coffee is a drink that became the number one popular drink in 1750, thus displacing beer from its place.
(Around that time, coffee had finally become available to ordinary people, and no longer the elitist and mysterious drink that was first).

The coffee plant (Coffea spp.) has several species, most of which originate from tropical Africa and the islands in the Indian Ocean. There are several legends that tell about the origin of coffee.

The most famous story is as follows: Where Ethiopia is now, there lived a goat herder named Kaldi. He was in the Kingdom of Kaffa and saw how his goats ate the red berries of a bush and became very energetic and excited. He took some berries with him, cooked them at home and drank them. Kaldi noticed that he was more alert, had a better focus and felt satisfied.
It is very likely that the Arabs started growing the coffee plant. They gave coffee the names qahwa or quahweh (meaning 'strength' or 'gives power'). The word coffee or caffe can certainly be seen in this.

Coffee and Europe

Mocha is a first quality coffee bean and named after the port city of Mocha in Yemen. Legends exist about this as well. On one of his trips Marco Polo would moor at a city in the south of the Middle East due to famine. This city was called Sūr. Various kinds of spices were sold at a market. Here Marco found the bean that a trader from Mocha had taken. Marco Polo took the mocha beans with him and presented them to the Doge of Venice.
Actually it is not clear who brought coffee to Europe, but it is known that the first coffee house probably originated in Venice in the 17th century. At the end of the 17th century the Dutch smuggled the coffee plant Coffea arabica to Indonesia (Java) and Sri Lanka. Here this plant was able to thrive and spread quickly. It is said that the Netherlands was responsible for the beginning of the coffee trade from 1700 onwards.
Coffee became more and more popular worldwide and is nowadays, after oil, the number two trade product in the world.

Caffeine

The substance that helps you rub the sand out of your eyes in the morning and start the day full of energy and courage is caffeine. This alkaloid is not only found in coffee beans, but also in tea leaves (here it's called theine, but actually it's the same substance), guarana, dark chocolate and of course energy drinks. Caffeine can have a positive influence on concentration, focus and energy in smaller quantities. In high doses it can cause heart palpitations, anxiety and sleep problems. The dose varies per person.

Do you drink a (few) cups of coffee every day?

It is an art to prepare the best coffee for yourself. Fresh coffee beans, a hand grinder (good for the arm muscles, or monks' work) and a percolator, or a Moka pot... it's quite a job and more for the connoisseurs without haste. It is recommended to get up half an hour earlier if you want to make this your daily habit.

Do you have a busy life and can you use some extra energy without having to wait for that hot coffee to finally cool down? Bionix Guru Power gives you a quick caffeine boost! These handy capsules contain a balanced mix of different plant extracts and vitamins, allowing you to fly in again.

A combination of CBD and coffee

The stimulating effects of caffeine, together with the beneficial effects of cannabidiol, the substance found in the hemp plant.

A few drops of CBD oil through your café are not such a good idea when it comes to taste: the bitterness of the oil will start to dominate. That's why Cannabissimo has brought a delicious Italian coffee blend on the market that is very suitable for coffee lovers who want that extra twist.
Hemp contains a lot of omega 3, a fatty acid that many people are short of. It also contains terpenes, such as linalool and beta-caryophyllene.
Would you like to experience the therapeutic value of CBD in the form of oil, without caffeine but with extra energy and concentration? Cibiday has released a special CBD Oil Focus which is great for taking during the day.

The human body is equipped with a biological system made up of endo-cannabinoids (i.e. cannabinoids produced by the body itself). This system is called the endo-cannabinoid system. It regulates several important functions, including mood, fertility, hunger, pain, memory. This system is also involved in sports. When you go running or cycling for example, the endo-cannabinoid system causes the release of anandamine, also called the Lucky molecule. The substance has to do with feelings such as motivation and pleasure.
Phyto-cannbinoids (i.e. cannabinoids from plants) bind very easily to the receptors in our body. CBD stimulates your internal system in this way. In this way it can help you with, among other things, pain control, strengthening and regulating your immune system, removing anxiety and depression.

...Or a cup of tea?

It never hurts to put your love for coffee aside for a while. Start your day with a warming tea, which might as well give you energy!

The advantages of tea:

  • You can vary endlessly, from green tea to black tea to herbal tea...
  • Tea lowers blood pressure
  • Tea contains antioxidants, which, among other things, help reduce the risk of diabetes and cardiovascular diseases. Antioxidants are also abundant in coffee, by the way.
  • Tea contains fluoride, this is good for your teeth.

Hemp Earth has developed a delicious morning blend based on CBD and white tea. White tea consists of young buds of the tea plant and contains caffeine, albeit less than a cup of coffee.
